The Undulation of Breath and Jingles, A Shell Diver’s Song
41.5” x 41.5” x 2” framed
block-printed paper quilt
This piece was created and titled to communicate the feeling of my “happy place”... underwater, mask and snorkel on, bobbing from surface to sea floor like a sea turtle - rummaging through underwater debris for sea shells.
The word “undulation” is that back and forth, wave-like movement or cadence. The word “Jingles” is in the title because if you love shell hunting you know when you hear jingles you follow the sound and you will find a pocket of shells. “Breath is in the title because along with the sound of waves and tumbling shells, your breath is a very loud presence. It is there that I am most aware of my breathing patterns and control of it.
The rest of the pieces in the “Natural Comfort” collection are prayers for the future but this one is all about being grateful for natural comforts.
